The Jackery JA SmartReader is a compact reader for smart electricity meters with an optical D0 interface. It reads the current consumption data directly from the meter and transmits it to the Jackery app and to compatible Jackery energy storage systems.
This is particularly useful for households with a balcony solar system, a storage unit or a Jackery HomePower System: the system can better recognise when electricity is needed in the home and when surplus solar energy is available. This allows you to manage your own consumption more effectively, rather than feeding solar power into the grid uncontrollably or drawing electricity from the grid unnecessarily.
The SmartReader uses the optical interface of the digital electricity meter and can record energy flow, consumption and feed-in almost in real time. The data is transmitted to the Jackery system at short intervals. This provides the storage system with a better basis for automatically adapting charging and discharging processes to the household’s current needs.
With storage systems in particular, it is not just a question of how much electricity is generated, but when it is needed in the home. With the Jackery JA SmartReader, the system can detect whether energy is currently being consumed or fed into the grid. This means that surplus solar energy can be stored during the day and used later, for example in the evening or at night.
The reader is attached to the relevant meter either magnetically or via a plug-in connection. No modifications to the home’s electrical distribution system are required. The only important thing is that the existing electricity meter has a compatible optical interface and that data sharing on the meter is set up correctly.
Communication takes place via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Once set up in the Jackery app, consumption figures and energy flow can be conveniently monitored. The device is energy-efficient and designed for continuous operation in the meter area.
With its small housing, the SmartReader can be discreetly installed at the meter location. It is particularly suitable for users who wish to operate their Jackery SolarVault or HomePower system not just manually, but in a data-driven and automated manner.
Before purchasing, you should check whether your existing electricity meter supports a D0 or optical IR interface. Depending on the meter model, PIN unlocking or activation of extended data output may be required. You should also check compatibility with your specific Jackery energy storage system.
